5. What is air plasma cutting?

Plasma cutting is a process that is used to cut steel and other metals of different thicknesses (or sometimes other materials) using a plasma torch. In this process, an inert gas (in some units, compressed air) is blown at high speed out of a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed through that gas from the nozzle to the surface being cut, turning some of that gas to plasma. The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the cut.

6. What types of metal can be used with a plasma cutter?

Plasma cutter will cut any metal that is electrically conductive including Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum and Copper. Be mindful that all cuts will be de-rated a little, especially with the softer metals like aluminum, copper, and stainless steel. Rating refers to the thickness a plasma cutter can cut at a rate of 10 inches per minute.

7. I am a beginner, how much skill is involved with plasma cutting?

Air plasma arc process has been greatly refined so that plasma provides good quality cutting, gouging and piercing at very high speeds that is easy to operate. Although the technology behind the plasma arc may seem complicated, the process itself is very easy to learn and perform for a beginner. To set up a plasma cutter, follow the user manual to hook-up the compressed air to the plasma cutting unit. It is recommended that operators make a few practice cuts to set the amperage of the cutting unit to the proper level. Also, safety procedures must be closely followed anytime operating a plasma cutting machine. When used properly, a plasma cutter will provide clean, quality cuts at high speeds.

8. How do I figure out which type of welding wire I need?

Selecting the right type of welding wire depends on the metal thickness and type of metal. For thin metals, use a smaller diameter wire. For thicker metal use a larger wire and a larger machine. Use the correct wire type for the base metal being welded. Use stainless steel wire for stainless steel, aluminum wires for aluminum, and steel wires for steel. For additional help, please refer to the product specification guide for guidance.

9. Does the CC01/CC02 Torch work with a CNC table?

All of our machines have a High Frequency start meaning that we do not recommend that our machines and torches are used for CNC. Generally for best results and for ease of set up, it is recommended to have a Low Frequency start for your plasma cutting machine and torch in order to prevent blow back. The main advantage to using the CC01/ CC02 torch is if you would like to work with a straight handle torch with your plasma cutter.

10. What are some of the safety issues I need to consider?

Please refer to our product manuals for detailed safety information. As a quick guide only, consider the following -

·Safety glasses must be worn at all times in addition to welding mask

·Sturdy protective footwear with robber soles must be worn

·Respiratory protection devices may be required for some operations

·Hearing protection may be required when cutting thick material

·Long and loose hair must be contained

·Close fitting/ protective clothing to cover arms and legs must be worn

·Oil free leather gloves and spats must be worn

·A welding mask with shade number 10 protective filters must be worn

·Be aware of potential hazards involved with the process including, high voltages, noise, temperatures, flammable materials, fumes, ultraviolet radiation and molten metal

11. If my machine is out of warranty, can I still send it in for repair?

Absolutely, however, a repair service fee will apply.

12. What do I do if I need to send my machine in for repair, replacement or refund?

We offer a 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee for new machine purchases. For details of the return policy and warranties, CLICK HERE
