How to Decode the Terminology of Lotos Technology model names

Posted by

Hello Welders and Plasma Cutter Enthusiasts!

In our previous eBay buying guides we have covered when, why and how to use pigtail adapters and also provided you with some basic information about welding and the difference between welding methods/ techniques. In this buyers guide we will help you to discover the meaning behind our model names for Lotos Technology products. When you understand the logic behind our model name codes (or MPNs) you will have a clear definition about what types of products will suit you best with Lotos Technology has to offer.

By reading this article you will be able to:

1. Determine what welding/ plasma cutting products suit you best;

2. Learn the language behind model names for the welding/ plasma cutting industry to help you better understand that the short codes mean before you buy;

3. Have a better sense of what bundles or packages you need to buy which are compatible with your machine model type when you are buying consumables or accessories.

Now let’s start with some examples of the short codes used in Lotos Technology product name titles which you may already be familiar with. First of all, what is the difference between Lotos Technology’s plasma cutters LTP5000D and LT5000D? Can you guess by looking at the model name abbreviations? One uses a “P” and the other one doesn’t. Let me give you a clue- the “P” in the title LTP5000D does stand for a specific function which the plasma cutter is capable of which the LT5000D doesn’t feature.

To start with the first two letters of the title “LT” stands for the company name Lotos Technology who manufactures and distributes these Lotos Technology products. In both titles, the “LT” is logical and applies since they both are Lotos Technology products. Now for the next part, what does this mysterious letter “P” stand for? It stands for Pilot Arc function!

The LTP5000D is a plasma cutter which is 50 Amps and has a Pilot Arc function, where the LT5000D is a 50 Amp plasma cutter as well without the Pilot Arc function. The main difference between the LT5000D versus the LTP5000D is that with the LT5000D you need to have the torch closer to the metal when cutting (almost touching) since it doesn’t have a Pilot Arc function that the LTP5000D does.

Moving on, what would this title designate CT520D when we know that it is a machine. There is no “P” meaning we cannot tell if it is really a plasma cutter or something else. Let’s break it down letter by letter then, the “C” part of this model name abbreviation stands for “Cutting” meaning that it has a cutting function associated with it. The letter “T” indicates that this machine has a TIG welding function. When we combine this understanding together we can add up C+T meaning this machine is multi-process and can do both cutting and TIG welding functions.

Decoding Lotos Technology Product Codes

Torches

Anytime you see the letter “P” in a product model name abbreviation, this is an indication that the machine has a Pilot Arc function.

For instance, what about these plasma cutting torches CP132 or CP242, does the “P” in the title indicate that they work with Pilot Arc plasma cutter machines? The answer is yes!

Now let’s compare this to a different type of plasma cutting torch such as CL132 or CL105, do these torches work with Pilot Arc plasma cutters? No, they do not since they do not have a “P” in the title designation. In this case, the torches with the “CL” beginning abbreviation stand for Cutting Lotos and indicate that they work with non-Pilot Arc Lotos Technology machines. By understanding the logic between CP torches and CL torches you will quickly be able to see at first glance the difference between the two torch types.

How about the plasma cutting torch CC01 and CC02? What do these model abbreviations indicate to us? This may not be as straight forward as the logic of the other two torch types (difference between Pilot Arc and Non-Pilot Arc torches). Whenever you see “C” in the title for Lotos Technology products this is generally an indication that the machine or accessory/ consumable has a cutting function. In this case with the CC01 torches this indicates that they are compatible with CNC tables, this abbreviation maybe isn’t as intuitive as the other abbreviations used for Lotos Technology products especially since the letter N is dropped in this case.

Consumables

PCON stands for Pilot Arc plasma cutter consumable and indicates that it is compatible with a Pilot Arc plasma cutter.

LCON stands for Lotos (plasma cutting) consumable and indicates that it works with a non-Pilot Arc plasma cutting machine since it doesn’t include the letter “P” in its model name abbreviation.

Accessories

FP23 and FP05, what could these abbreviations mean? This one is fairly straight forward the “FP” stands for Foot Pedal.

HM01 stands for Helmet for welding protection.

Now you can easily use these abbreviation codes to help expedite your search for compatible model names and types to use for purchasing your Lotos Technology products. Some of this logic also applies to other brands as well since they use some code words with the “P” indicating Pilot Arc or the “C” indicating cutting, or some titles may simply say “CUT400” or “CUT50” which is a clear designation that the machine is used for plasma cutting. We hope that this buyers guide has provided you with plenty of useful information to help you to search for, combine/bundle and purchase your next welding and plasma cutting product!
